Announcement from Sports Editor Jason Murray and Deputy Sports Editor Matt Rennie:

The Washington Post won two first-place awards at the annual Associated Press Sports Editors contest. The Post’s 13 finalists in writing, photography, section, digital and photography categories, were the most among all publications in the A division.

Dave Sheinin took top honors for short feature for his story on Brooks Robinson and his relationship to the city of Baltimore following his death.

Sally Jenkins, on Evert and Navratilova, and Kent Babb, on Harvard football teammates, finished second and third, respectively, in the long features division. Candace Buckner finished third in column writing, Adam Kilgore finished third in national beat writing and John McDonnell finished third in action photography.

The Post sports staff also earned top 10s for digital, print portfolio and special section (there is no final ranking, just top 10).
