Families said they were disappointed with the short display after waiting through the disruption

A free fireworks event will be held after an organised display in Birmingham was delayed due to technical issues.

The event, held at Kings Heath Cricket & Sports Club on Sunday, was “very late and short”, said organisers as they apologised for the disruption.

Ticket holders who paid entry for the display complained it was a “massive financial waste” as others said their children were “disappointed”.

A complimentary event will be held a the club on Friday, with doors open to the public from 17.30 GMT.

Tickets for Sunday’s event cost £8 per person in advance, £10 entry on the door or £25 for a family of four.

People responded to the club’s apology on Facebook to express their frustration at the quality of the event.

One person said they had to watch the display on the walk home. Another person said: “Absolutely shocking evening, firework display way too late.

“I should imagine so many disappointed people, young children with school or nursery tomorrow, had to leave early feeling tired and cold

“A massive financial waste for many families.”

‘Committed to making right’

The club said contractors that supplied the fireworks experienced technical difficulties and it apologised for not providing its usual “spectacular show”.

It said: “We understand how disappointing this was, and we’re actively reviewing what happened to ensure it doesn’t happen again.

“A display that was presented, albeit very late and short, was certainly not the display that we are accustomed to here.

“Please know that we value the time you shared with us, and we’re committed to making this right.”

Some people responded to the post to to offer their sympathies. One person wrote: “Completely understand that the technical difficulties was out of your control.

“Despite this I didn’t let it spoil my evening and the fireworks were still great, definitely worth the wait.

The club said the fairground would not be open on Friday, but a fireworks display would begin at 18:15.
