Mason Mount is a “proper footballer” who wants to succeed at Manchester United, says head coach Ruben Amorim.

Mount, 25, joined from Chelsea in the summer of 2023 but his time at Old Trafford so far has been hampered by injury issues.

He started against Bodo/Glimt and played for an hour of Thursday’s Europa League victory.

Amorim talked about his “belief” in Mount and said of the England midfielder: “The first thing is he’s working really hard. Then you have to understand the human also – he wants this really badly, and that is the most important thing.

“He has proved he is a really talented player. He was a European champion, so we believe in him a lot.

“He has to stay fit and, like all the guys in the team, they are quality players, they have to improve and believe in themselves.

“On Thursday he did a great job. You see some moments and details where you can see that Mason is a proper footballer. We believe in him a lot and I especially believe a lot in Mason.”

After a draw at Ipswich in his first game in charge, Amorim is hopeful of a first Premier League win as United boss against Everton on Sunday (13:30 GMT).

“It’s going to be a different match with a lot of fighting for long balls and second balls,” he added.

“They have a quality coach who understands the league and understands the moment of the opponent. We need to have the ball because we have a short time to recover.

“I hope for a win and I hope to see different things in my team improve, like we did from Ipswich to now, against Everton, without training. I expect to see different things and better things.”
