Liverpool want invincible with 33g/a since 23/24 as TAA replacement, willing to pay multi-million release clause – report

Liverpool are willing to pay the £34.7 million which would release Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong from his contract after identifying him as a replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold, according to the Daily Mail. The England international has shown neither signs nor willingness to extend his contract with the Reds beyond this season, and the Anfield club have put Frimpong at the top of their list of potential replacements. The 23-year-old was part of the invincible Leverkusen squad that won the Bundesliga title last season without a defeat, and Liverpool have been impressed with his performances so far.

The Netherlands international has been involved in 33 goals since last season, weighing in with 15 goals and 18 assists across all competitions.

The versatile Frimpong also notched nine goals and 11 assists in 2022-23 and could be willing to return to the Premier League after failing to make a first-team debut for Manchester City following nine years in their academy.

Liverpool have become an attractive club for the best players in Europe these days, and they are currently five points clear at the top of the Premier League table after 11 games.

The Merseysiders are also top of the table in the Champions League after four wins in the four opening games of the league phase.

They will be desperate to convince Alexander-Arnold to sign an extension, but their chances are looking bleak, and they need to start preparing for life without their academy graduate.

Getting a perfect replacement for him could prove tricky, but Frimpong has proven himself over the years in the Bundesliga, and the Leverkusen star has what it takes to succeed the Liverpool star at Anfield.

His cheap release clause is a huge plus for the Reds, but they are not the only big club keeping tabs on the Dutchman, and manager Arne Slot has to convince his compatriot that joining Liverpool will be the best move for his career.
