Whitney Point man drives pickup truck on top of parked car, charged with felonies: Sheriff

Date:

A Whitney Point man is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly driving head-on into and on top of an occupied Mitsubishi Eclipse on Prospect Street in the Town of Triangle, the Broome County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.

At about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, responding sheriff’s deputies found Travis A. Ross, 35, in the driver’s seat of a 1998 GMC pickup truck that was parked atop the Eclipse.

According to the sheriff’s office, the ensuing investigation revealed that Ross had driven his pickup truck into the Eclipse before driving over and on top of the car while two passengers were inside. After the pickup came to a stop on top of the vehicle, the two victims exited the Eclipse and fled the scene, with one victim hiding nearby and the other calling 911 at a nearby Byrne Dairy, said the sheriff’s office.

Ross was charged with two counts of first-degree reckless endangerment, plus two counts of second-degree assault with intent to cause physical injury with a weapon, all class-D felonies. Ross was also charged with several traffic violations. The people in the Eclipse escaped injuries.

Ross told deputies he intended to ram the vehicle but instead ended up on top of the car, according to the sheriff’s office, which added he “was sick of repeated crime in the area and unknown individuals parking in their vehicles on his road.”

Ross will appear in the Town of Triangle Court at a later date.
