Women’s Basketball Returns Home Against Central Connecticut State Sunday – University of Dayton Athletics

DAYTON – The University of Dayton women’s basketball team returns to action from the holiday break to host Central Connecticut State Sunday, Dec. 1 at 1 p.m. at UD Arena.

SCOUTING THE FLYERS

Dayton holds a record of 4-3 on the season and coming off a pair of tough losses to Maryland Eastern Shore and South Dakota at the Music City Classic in Nashville. The Flyers are 4-0 at home this season however.

Head coach Tamika Williams-Jeter is in her third season in charge of her hometown Flyers, coming over after a year at Wittenberg. She has assistant coaching stops at Kansas, Kentucky, Penn State, and Ohio State.

The Flyers are averaging 67.0 points per game and holding opposing teams to 65.4 points. Dayton is shooting 40.3 percent overall, 29.3 percent from three point range, and 68.6 percent from the free throw line. UD has a +2.7 rebounding margin, but is committing more turnovers.

Leading the way for the Flyers is senior Ivy Wolf with 17.7 points and 4.4 rebounds per game while grad student Rikki Harris is averaging 8.0 points and 3.9 boards each contest. Freshman Olivia Leung is the reigning A-10 Rookie of the Week and has been an energy boost off the bench for the Flyers.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

CENTRAL CONNECTICUT STATE


Central Connecticut State comes to Ohio with a 1-7 record overall and on the back of the Blue Devils’ first win of the season over Bridgeport Friday afternoon. CCSU is 0-4 on the year away from home.

Head coach Way Veney is in her second season in charge of the Blue Devils, and has stints on Temple, Providence, and William & Mary staffs.

As a team, CCSU is being outscored 56.3 points to 70.0 points per game while shooting 38.1 percent from the field, 25.4 percent from behind the arc, and 67.2 percent from the charity stripe. The Devils face -4.8 rebounding and turnover margins as well.

Central Connecticut State leans on the trio of Dagny Slomack, Selina Monestime, and Meghan Kenefick, who all are averaging double-digits each outing. Alonna Sellers is chipping in 9.4 points and a team-high 7.4 rebounds per game.

SERIES HISTORY

The Flyers and Blue Devils are meeting for the first time in program history.

LEADING THE PACK

Ivy Wolf leads the A-10 and ranks ninth in the country in three pointers made and 10th in three point attempts. She is also 25th in total scoring.

FIRST ROOKIE HONORS FOR LEUNG

Freshman guard Olivia Leung earned A-10 Rookie of the Week accolades on Nov. 25 after her 13-points, 11 of which came on the rally in the 4th, in the win over Providence.

PREPPING FOR A-10 PLAY

Dayton’s non-conference schedule features eight home games, one true road game, and two neutral site games. Besides hosting the likes of Providence and Vanderbilt, UD traveled to No. 16 Duke on Nov. 14 and participated in the Music City Classic in Nashville, Tenn.
