Barcelona growing concerned about the January registration of €60 million-rated key star

After signing Dani Olmo from RB Leipzig in the summer transfer window, FC Barcelona had to wait until the third La Liga game of the season to hand him his debut as his registration with the league was not done in time due to financial issues.

In the end, Barça made use of Andreas Christensen’s long-term injury to get their marquee new signing registered, although it would only be valid until the end of December.

As such, Barcelona will have to re-register Olmo in January and up until now, there was confidence that there would no problems in getting it done.

Concerns growing

However, now, according to SPORT, Barcelona’s technical secretariat is increasingly worried as the January transfer window approaches, having yet to find a viable solution for registering Dani Olmo with La Liga.

The situation stems from last summer when both Olmo and fellow new signing Pau Victor were registered until 31st December.

Along with the pair, Christensen, who is now close to full recovery, was promised January registration based on the club’s anticipated resolution of their Financial Fair Play constraints.

However, the economic outlook is less promising than initially projected.

Financial Hurdles

Indeed, Barcelona are not in the position that they desired to be in the financial aspect, with two key developments causing particular concern.

The anticipated new Nike contract, intended to provide a solution, now appears unlikely to be finalised until at least January, postponing a crucial income stream needed to unlock the registration situation.

Barcelona had also counted on resolving the Libero situation by finding a new investor to cover the €60 million payment but the club do not expect to overcome the issue in the immediate future.

This has placed the technical secretariat in a difficult position regarding their commitments to both Olmo and Christensen. Current calculations suggest only one player can be registered, not both.

While the players maintain faith in the club’s assurances and believe there is still time to find a solution, their confidence contrasts sharply with the growing anxiety within the club’s technical department.
