Destiny USA sues major restaurant for 2nd time, claims back rent barreling toward $1 million

Date:

Syracuse, NY — One of Destiny USA’s biggest restaurants, Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville, hasn’t paid the bulk of its rent in two years, leading to a debt that could reach $1 million this summer, the mall claims in a new lawsuit.

But the owners behind the tropical-themed restaurant are fighting back, blaming Covid-19 shutdowns for depriving it of foot traffic guaranteed under its 2014 lease. In fact, the 15,878-square-foot restaurant actually overpaid $200,000 in rent during the pandemic shutdown, Margaritaville argues in court papers.
