It’s almost time to watch celebrities get slimed at the upcoming 36th Annual Kids’ Choice Awards. The awards show has had some memorable moments over the past three decades.
From surprise slimes to memorable performances, here are some moments that have since gone down in history.
Whitney Houston’s 1996 performance of ‘I’m Every Woman’
Houston took to the KCA stage in 1996 performing her 1993 hit song ‘I’m Every Woman’, with excited kids screaming in the background. Houston also co-hosted the event with Rosie O’Donnell, marking Houston’s second time to host and Rosie O’Donnell’s first.
Rosie O’Donnell hosts eight years in a row
O’Donnell graciously hosted the awards show eight years in a row, from 1996 to 2003. She hosted the 10th Annual KCA in 1997. Before she ended her last night as host, she received a memorable send-off after getting slimed by Jim Carey.
*NSYNC gets slimed in 2001
In 2001, boy band *NSYNC got slimed remotely by O’Donnell. At the award show, they were also nominated for “Favorite Singing Group”.
Britney Spears performs ‘Baby One More Time’ in 1999
During the 12th annual KCA, Spears took to the stage to perform her debut single ‘…Baby One More Time’ at only 17 years old. Other performers at the 1999 show were TLC and *NSYNC.
Michelle Obama awards Taylor Swift the ‘Big Help’ Award in 2012
Then first lady Michelle Obama awarded singer Taylor Swift the ‘Big Help’ Award in 2012, recognizing Swift’s philanthropic efforts. Obama described the singer as “someone who is going to keep making sparks fly for all of us in the years ahead,” in her speech.
Nickelodeon unveils “Nickverse”, familiar Orange Blimp now in the metaverse on Roblox
Prior to the 2022 KCA, Nickelodeon unveiled a metaverse experience set in Roblox allowing kids to play games build around various Nickelodeon franchises. Kids were even able to vote for the awards show via the platform using a slime gun.
