Magda Linette v Varvara Gracheva Head to Head

It is 1-0 to Linette; they last met in the 2022 Strasbourg Open where Magda won in straight sets.

Linette Enjoying a Solid Start

World No. 21 Magda Linette is enjoying the best start to a season in her professional career.

She is already 10-4, has picked up over $800,000 in prize money, and is placed at a career-high singles ranking. The 31-year-old achieved all of this just two months into the tour.

The question is now if she can keep the tempo going, especially with two big tournaments coming up in March. This week in Austin should serve as a good practice run.

Most recently, Magda played in the Merida Open where she was a quarterfinalist – losing to Rebecca Peterson in straight sets. Before that, she delivered the best Grand Slam result by reaching the semis in the Australian Open. Her semifinal showing in the United Cup, where she beat Jil Teichmann, Zhibek Kulambayeva, and Lucia Bronzetti, is also worth a mention here.

Gracheva, Hard at Work

22-year-old Varvara Gracheva is heading for the WTA Austin with a tally of 7-8 and a litany of early exits.

In her last two tournaments in Linz and Merida, the 88th-ranked Russian started as a qualifier and made it as far as round two before succumbing to Maria Sakkari and Sloane Stephens respectively.

The highlight of her season stands as her third-round showing in the Australian Open where she beat Daria Kasatkina and Lucrezia Stefanini.

Gracheva’s form over the last two seasons has been underwhelming, as she picked up more defeats than wins. She hasn’t won a title in four years now and is yet to reach a WTA final in her career.

Linette v Gracheva Prediction and Tip

This match is Linette’s to lose. While she has seen her fair share of losses, it is hard to imagine her losing to Gracheva – who has been out of sorts and form. Expect no surprises here.
