We are currently seeking a Senior Editor to join the Bantam Dell imprint.

Specific Responsibilities Include:

Acquires manuscripts–mainly fiction–in the rom-com, historical fiction, suspense, mystery, and romance categoriesEdits manuscripts-writing editorial letters and line-editing manuscripts. Works with authors on concepts, outlines, and revisions.Cultivates relationships in the agent community, particularly in these categories. Develops relationships with new agents and maintains ongoing ones.Stays current on potential acquisitions of self-published authors with breakout potentialPositions works for target readerships, then works with cover department, publicity, and marketing on developing publishing plans to reach the widest possible audienceWorks with production and managing editorial departments on copyediting, schedule, and designPrepares sales materials as needed, including endorsement requests, flap copy, and title information sheets, along with reading guide questions and value-add materialsKeeps abreast of category trends and competitive titlesHandles daily correspondence, office work, phones, and attends required meetingsHandles special projects, backlist titles and house authors as assigned, and works collaboratively with the larger teamRequirements:

Candidates should have at least 5 years book editorial experience and a solid track record of shaping commercially successful booksStrong editorial skillsCommunication skills, verbal and writtenInterpersonal skillsOrganizational skills; ability to attend to detailAbility to work independentlyDeep category knowledgeNegotiation skills

The salary range for this position is $78,000-$85,000. In order to be considered at the higher end of the range, we are looking for someone with 7-10 years of book editorial experience. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
