Musselburgh racing tips
1.50: VE Day 11/4
This is an open Juvenile Maiden Hurdle that is just occupied by four runners.
However, a debut for VE Day for Donald McCain under Brian Hughes could be the one to side with as the trainer has waited with this horse to find an ideal race for the Owners Group horse.
He has the pedigree too, by Churchill and out of Cochabamba, two flat horses with a plethora of winners in their combined progeny.
Churchill has sired five Group winners and three Stakes winners on the flat.
VE Day will most likely lead from the front early on under Hughes who can aim to give the debutant the best possible start over hurdles.
2.20: Cartonne 13/8
Made a winning start over fences last time out under Theo Gillard for McCain and the trainer could get two quick winners at Musselburgh if these two come in.
Up 7lb for that win but was well suited to the extended 2m4f trip and was a comfortable winner in the end with plenty of chances to improve further for his second run.
3.55: Hidalgo De L’Isle 6/5
It’s another McCain and Hughes horse that takes the tip for this race and the favourite has shown much progression over hurdles recently and should keep that form going in an easier contest today.
His opponents have yet to win over hurdles and Hidalgo De L’Isle just won on his third attempt after placing second to Matchless in November, who has since stepped up to Class 3 contests.
And second to Cianciana in January who has gone on to place in Class 1 and Class 2 juvenile hurdles.
On his latest run he won by over five lengths and returns to be a favourite for the fifth time in his career.
Wincanton racing tips
2.10: Outlaw Peter 4/7
Most of these fields are strung out at this time with Cheltenham Festival on the horizon.
And one contender takes the opener here at Wincanton who is a 16/1 shot for the Coral Cup at Cheltenham on the Wednesday.
Outlaw Peter is an odds-on favourite who should make all here with a decent Class 4 contest to prep him for the festival.
The seven-year-old will be giving nearly a stone to his rivals but due to his form in tougher tasks he looks the part as a big favourite.
3.45: Cap Du Mathan 6/4
Nicholls and Cobden have a similar day at Wincanton that Hughes and McCain have a Musselburgh with a few favourites across the cards.
But they’re favourites for a reason and Cap Du Mathan has won his latest two races with the latest by a huge distance beating Lac De Constance at 15/8.
That was a great price in the end and he remains a similar price going into this as the one who’s form stands out the most too.
