Washington County OVI checkpoint leads to one arrest

MARIETTA — One person was arrested Friday night during an OVI checkpoint on Ohio 7 near Washington County 9 by the Ohio State Highway Patrol Marietta Post with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the Marietta Police Department, the patrol reported.

The checkpoint, funded by a federal grant, was planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers.

More than 575 drivers were checked for impairment by officers with the average interaction time of 25 seconds, the patrol said. Two vehicles diverted during the checkpoint, the patrol said.

In addition to the arrest for impaired driving, one seatbelt citation was issued, the patrol said.
